PWD Minister promises better road connectivity, infrastructure for Infopark

Hon’ble Minister for Public Works Shri V K Ibrahim Kunju on Monday assured that the government will do the needful to develop roads and other related infrastructure in and around Infopark to further fuel IT growth.

“The government will soon convene a meeting with the officials concerned, in the presence of the Chief Minister, to take the necessary steps to renovate and develop roads and other related infrastructure near Infopark as a toppriority,” the Minister said after inaugurating the valedictory function of Infopark’s 10th anniversary celebrations.

Delivering his presidential address, Shri Benny Behanan MLA said information technology was one of the main industries that could redefine Kerala’s investment climate. “Our state is blessed with young people who are very talented in this field. We should make use of this resource to build our IT dream,” he added.

“We should work shoulder-to-shoulder to transform Kerala into a globally acclaimed IT  hub in ten years from now,” said Shri P H Kurian, Principal Secretary, IT and Industries, who was present on the occasion.

Delivering the welcome address, Infopark CEO Shri Hrishikesh Nair said the park has attained all milestones in terms of IT space, employment generation and software exports. “We have attracted over Rs 3,000 crore worth of investment, and generated over Rs 2,350 crores of software exports revenue,” he said.

Over the last decade, the growth of Infopark has been spectacular both in terms of world-class IT space and employment generation. The facility currently boasts of over 4.5 million sqft technology workspace with state-of-the-art infrastructure. The 100-acre Kochi campus is currently home to 200 plus companies, including some of the big names in the industry such as TCS, Wipro, Cognizant, UST Global etc. The park currently employs around 24,000 IT professionals.

Infopark has almost finished its Phase I development, with the construction of IT campuses by TCS and Brigade Group nearing completion. Work on the Rs 2500-crore Phase II project, spread across 160 acres, is progressing quickly and is expected to be ready for operations by 2020.

Companies, Infopark office staff and governing board members who have completed 10 years with Infopark were felicitated on the occasion.

Dr Safeena A N, IAS, Development Commissioner CSEZ; Shri M G Rajamanickam IAS, District Collector; Dr G C Gopala Pillai, Managing Director, KINFRA; Shri P I Muhammad Ali , Municipal Councilor; Adv Shereena Shukur, acting Chairperson Thrikkakkara Municipality; and Shri V K Mathews, Chairman, NASSCOM Regional council and G Tech Group of Companies, were also present on the occasion.
